Day 7: Disaster at Glencoe.
107 miles from Dunoon to Fort William.

After heavy overnight rain Friday promised to start off very miserable, but once again the weather had us fooled. Derek proposed a small diversion through the pass at Glencoe, shaving a valuable 0.21 miles off the route but climbing up to about a million feet above sea level. This threatened to make Derek the scapegoat of the day, but JCI came to his rescue by ballsing up left right and centre with several mechanical problems.
Apparently, his rear wheel had been more or less bald since leaving Lands End, and decided to blow on multiple occasions, with the spokes twanging in sympathy.
"I shall walk to Fort William" - Iliffe's shock claim. This, however, was rendered unnecessary by the arrival of the God-like Colin with a van full of spares.
A very wild & windy descent through Glencoe brought us into Fort William, with arrival times spread out over two hours. Those who had been huddled in a ditch waiting for JCI to arrive were so pleased to see him that they clasped him warmly by the throat.
The evening ended with a very nice curry, though Dave has discovered the dangers of combining a vindaloo with a cycling holiday. Further details would be inappropriate with a primary school in Preston following our progress.

Top cycling tips: Simon's typical daily food intake:-
Full cooked breakfast, lasagna & chips with bread & butter, two ham rolls, three bananas, two Mars bars, one Bounty, one packet of shortbread biscuits, four litres of high calorie drink, one John West pasta meal, lamb tikka AND chicken curry, one pint Murphys. NB Simon still only weighs nine stone ten pounds.
